Roland De Conno Pobitzer

Quali partite pensi siano difficili? A quali situazioni dovrete stare attenti?

The Floorballmania column is back, dedicated to refereeing rules and like every week Roland De Conno, Italian Federal Referee and IFF, answers the questions that come to the Floorballmania editorial staff.

The column, shared and in collaboration with the Italian Unihockey Floorball Federation, is arousing a lot of interest, according to the questions that come to our email.

Hi Roland let's start with our questions.

1) Floorball has restarted in Italy with the Italian Cup. The first matches in Rome 1 and 2 May, how did you referees feel? Which game was the most difficult to play? Can you explain the new delay and restart rule after this report?

1) The gathering for the Italian Cup on the weekend of May 1st was a nice return to sport for everyone. For two days we had a semblance of normalcy. In recent weeks thanks to SSV, and I would personally like to thank Herbert Gius and his Staff, we had the opportunity to train together with the team which made it easier for us to return to the field. We were aware of the fact that the match between SSV and Viking Roma would be the cartel match.

On the other hand, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality and physicality of FC Milano. Composed of various elements from other teams, she was able to put in a good pace by drawing with SSV and surprisingly beating Viking Roma as well.

The new rule concerning the deferred penalty declares that the game will no longer be resumed with a faceoff at the point closest to the interruption of the game, but with a direct punishment in favor of the team that will play in numerical superiority.

2) What were the most common fouls? We noticed a lot of cue hits, this may be the fault of the little training of this period, in your opinion? Was there respect between the teams? How did the rookie referees go?

2) The cue shots have always distinguished the quality of the game that you see on the pitch. A team with good technique is able to defend the ball by ensuring that any forbidden shot is punished by the referees. The thing fails when the control of the ball is almost non-existent. There have been many "free" balls and few protected ball possessions.

Which makes life very difficult for us referees, who we limit ourselves to evaluate from situation to situation using a lot of the advantage in order not to break up the game excessively. This does not mean that we "let it go" more. We simply observe the progress of the actions and evaluate when a fence affects the game and when it does not. Infrequent training certainly has its faults, but in some cases, in my opinion, the basics of ball possession are missing.

Grit and physicality help, but if you are unable to effectively protect the ball or always "bring" it into the open, speed and broad shoulders do not have the desired effect. Riccardo and Massimiliano got along well throughout the weekend.

The first game, which on paper seemed to be simple, turned out to be a real challenge at the same level. After an initial difficulty, they were able to show character and hold it in their hands until the final minutes. They will do well, it takes experience, and you can only do it by facing race after race, difficult or simple as it is. There is hunger, and it is the most important thing.

3) What parties do you expect for the return on 15 and 16 May aBolzano? You will be paired with Riccardo Lombardo, what will you tell him? Which matches do you think are difficult? What situations will you need to watch out for?

3) This weekend's matches will be pretty tough. With the entry of Milano Molotov and the unexpected defeats of Viking Roma there will be a battle. With Riki we talk every day and we are ready to face the six games with confidence.

There will be three high intensity games and I believe that the most difficult situations to keep at bay will be seasoned with frustration and tense nerves. We trust in a correct competition on the part of the teams.

Thanks to Roland De Conno Pobitzer, Italian Federal Arbitrator and IFF, for answering our questions.
